Cubardi

2003 Salento Red Blend

The Schola Sarmenti Cubardi is a captivating red blend from the renowned Salento region, showcasing a beautiful ruby color that hints at its rich character. This wine is full-bodied, offering a robust and generous mouthfeel that envelops the palate with each sip. Its acidity is bright and lively, cutting through the richness and providing a refreshing balance. The fruit intensity is prominent, with luscious notes of ripe blackberries and cherries taking center stage, while subtle earthy undertones add complexity. Tannins are firm and structured, giving the wine a solid backbone that supports its bold fruit flavors. The wine is dry yet fruit-forward, making it incredibly enjoyable on its own or paired with hearty dishes. The 2003 vintage reflects the warmth of the Salento terroir, resulting in a wine that is both expressive and elegant.

Region:

Puglia
Puglia

The heel of Italy's "boot," sunny Puglia (the "g" is silent), is famed for its olive oils, almonds and of course, its rich, full-bodied wines. Although dry and intensely hot in the summer, Puglia has coastlines on three sides, providing cool Mediterranean breezes to alleviate the daytime heat. Primitivo (known in the US as Zinfandel) does well here, with other popular red varieties including Sangiovese and Negroamaro. But it is not all about reds in Puglia: the local Fiano grape produces gloriously nutty, tropical-flavored white, while Falanghina makes intensely fruity wines with citrus blossom notes.
