Burdi'

2012 Salento Primitivo

Duca Carlo Guarini Burdi' is a captivating Primitivo from the esteemed Salento region, known for its warm climate and rich soils that lend intensity to its wines. This red wine showcases a deep, vibrant color that hints at its bold character. On the palate, it offers a full-bodied experience, balanced by pronounced acidity that adds freshness and vibrancy. The fruit intensity is prominent, with luscious notes of dark cherries, blackberries, and hints of ripe plums, making every sip a delightful experience. Tannins are firm yet well-integrated, providing structure without overwhelming the fruit. This wine's off-dry finish enhances its appeal, making it a perfect companion to hearty dishes or enjoyed on its own, reflecting the warm spirit of the Salento region beautifully.

Region:

Puglia
Puglia

The heel of Italy's "boot," sunny Puglia (the "g" is silent), is famed for its olive oils, almonds and of course, its rich, full-bodied wines. Although dry and intensely hot in the summer, Puglia has coastlines on three sides, providing cool Mediterranean breezes to alleviate the daytime heat. Primitivo (known in the US as Zinfandel) does well here, with other popular red varieties including Sangiovese and Negroamaro. But it is not all about reds in Puglia: the local Fiano grape produces gloriously nutty, tropical-flavored white, while Falanghina makes intensely fruity wines with citrus blossom notes.
