Bella Mojgan

2006 Salento Negroamaro 80%, Malvasia Nera 20%

The Marco Maci Bella Mojgan, crafted predominantly from Negroamaro with a touch of Malvasia Nera, is a captivating red wine hailing from the sun-kissed Salento region. This vintage, rooted in the rich terroir of southern Italy, displays a deep ruby hue that entices the eye. On the palate, it reveals a medium to full-bodied character, complemented by a moderate acidity that brings refreshing balance. The fruit intensity is certainly prominent, showcasing ripe berries and dark cherry notes against a backdrop of subtle spice. Tannins are well-integrated and provide a firm structure that supports the wine's complex profile. While the wine is dry, it maintains an inviting warmth, making it a delightful companion for hearty dishes or a cozy evening by the fire.

Region:

Puglia
Puglia

The heel of Italy's "boot," sunny Puglia (the "g" is silent), is famed for its olive oils, almonds and of course, its rich, full-bodied wines. Although dry and intensely hot in the summer, Puglia has coastlines on three sides, providing cool Mediterranean breezes to alleviate the daytime heat. Primitivo (known in the US as Zinfandel) does well here, with other popular red varieties including Sangiovese and Negroamaro. But it is not all about reds in Puglia: the local Fiano grape produces gloriously nutty, tropical-flavored white, while Falanghina makes intensely fruity wines with citrus blossom notes.
