Barrel Fermented Chardonnay

2005 Central Coast Chardonnay

The Castle Rock Barrel Fermented Chardonnay from the 2005 vintage beautifully exemplifies the elegance of Central Coast winemaking. In the glass, it showcases a lovely golden hue that hints at its rich character. This Chardonnay offers a full-bodied experience, with a delightful balance of high acidity that delivers a bright and refreshing mouthfeel. Notes of ripe stone fruits like peach and apricot intertwine with subtle hints of vanilla and toasty oak, resulting in a prominent fruit intensity that lingers on the palate. The tannins are notably soft, providing a smooth texture that complements its overall harmony. This wine is bone dry, making it an ideal pairing for a variety of dishes and perfect for those who appreciate the complexities of barrel-fermented Chardonnay.

Central Coast

California's Central Coast might be a bit quieter than Napa or Sonoma to the north, but this lesser-known region produces many world-class wines. Enjoying incredible terroir along its vast 280-mile stretch—from San Francisco Bay to Santa Barbara—Central Coast wines are increasingly in demand. Its position between the Pacific Coast Ranges and the Southern Coast Ranges is key to its quality, with many cool-climate AVAs offering elegant Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah and Merlot. In the hotter parts of the Central Coast, away from the coastal fogs and cold mountain slopes, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre are exceptional.
