Arcangelo

2008 Salice Salentino 80% Negroamaro, 20% Malvasia Nera

Palama Arcangelo is a captivating red wine hailing from the renowned Salice Salentino region, crafted in the exceptional 2008 vintage. This blend of eighty percent Negroamaro and twenty percent Malvasia Nera presents a rich, deep ruby hue that wonderfully captures the eye. On the palate, it offers a full-bodied experience, showcasing powerful fruit intensity with pronounced layers of dark cherry, blackberry, and subtle notes of dried herbs and spice, creating a beautifully harmonious profile. The acidity is bright and lively, providing a refreshing lift that balances the richness of the fruit. Complemented by firm tannins, this wine has a structured mouthfeel that promises an excellent aging potential. Region:

Puglia
Puglia

The heel of Italy's "boot," sunny Puglia (the "g" is silent), is famed for its olive oils, almonds and of course, its rich, full-bodied wines. Although dry and intensely hot in the summer, Puglia has coastlines on three sides, providing cool Mediterranean breezes to alleviate the daytime heat. Primitivo (known in the US as Zinfandel) does well here, with other popular red varieties including Sangiovese and Negroamaro. But it is not all about reds in Puglia: the local Fiano grape produces gloriously nutty, tropical-flavored white, while Falanghina makes intensely fruity wines with citrus blossom notes.
