WINE REGION:

Outline of Oregon

Oregon

With its rugged landscape and cool Pacific climate, Oregon is one of the world's great modern Pinot Noir regions. The Willamette Valley produces an impressive array of styles across its six AVAs, from fragrantly fruity to lush and complex. This is thanks to a range of terroirs that are eerily similar to Burgundy's in France (Oregon even lies on the same latitude). In fact, major Burgundy producers have set up in Oregon to make wine, including Domaine Drouhin and Louis Jadot. And it is not just Pinot Noir found in Oregon. Other benchmark grapes include Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Riesling; Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah thrive in the southern AVAs.

ABOUT THE BRAND:

large bunches of red grapes on the vine

A to Z Wineworks

FROM THE WINERY: A to Z Wineworks was started in 2002 by Oregon wine industry veterans: Deb Hatcher (Eyrie), Bill Hatcher (Domaine Drouhin Oregon), Sam Tannahill (Archery Summit), and Cheryl Francis (Chehalem). The two couples worked in the Hatcher's kitchen to build the original blend honored by Food & Wine magazine as the Best American Pinot Noir under $20. Recognition for A to Z wines as offering dependable quality for great value continues today making A to Z the top-selling Oregon wine brand. In 2006, the group welcomed another Oregon wine veteran, Michael Davies, as winemaker, and partnered with Gregg Popovich (Coach of the NBA San Antonio Spurs) to buy REX HILL Vineyards and Winery. A to Z has more collective Oregon winemaking experience than any other winery, experience that can make a difference in difficult vintages to stay true to the Essence of Oregon®.
