Stretching from the base of the Mayacamas to the Silverado Trail, Rutherford is one of Napa Valley's most famous AVAs. It gained its loyal following for its powerful, well-structured Cabernet Sauvignons. Crawling along the valley floor, vines benefit from warm temperatures and lots of California sunshine, all tempered by the cool Bay Area fog. One of the most recognizable elements of this AVA's wines is fine-grained tannins, known by wine enthusiasts as "Rutherford dust."
